Born in 1981, Armel Gaulme graduated from Penninghen/Académie Julian (Paris) and credits Alan Lee, John Howe and European illustrators from the 1900 as his sources of inspiration. As a professional artist, he made preproduction drawings and matte paintings and created several children's books with various publishers beginning with Adam Biro, Le baron Perché, and then Casterman and Bayard.

He currently teaches drawing and illustration at Ecole Méliès and works extensively in his own studio.
In 2014, he became obsessed with drawing and painting watercolors to illustrate Rudyard Kipling's short story,
The Man Who Would Be King. It was met with a great success during its Kickstarter campaign, leading to a deluxe english version in 2024.

In 2024, Bragelonne editions publishes his illustrated anthology of H.P Lovecraft's short stories titled Les Archives Lovecraft, compiling previous works made for Les Carnet Lovecraft and new never seen before illustrations.

He is actively working on illustrating an erotic poetry book.
