Julien Delval was born in 1972 and, after studying fine art, he began workingas an illustrator for role-playing company Multisim. The connections he made at the firm led to the realization of numerous bookcovers for different publishing houses. Today, after a stint in comics, he continues to work in the gaming sector, mainly with Days of Wonder, and spends time devoted to his own personal work, which is supported by the Daniel Maghen Gallery. He creates scenes from ancient worlds, mythology and fantasy which are inspired by both classical painting and the imagery of the 20th century. The pages are alive with scenes both dramatic and tender, sensitive and gripping in their detail.
Both of these books, Monograph and Studies, were crowdfunded projects who reached their target goal very quickly!
Monograph is a showcase of his spectacular and complex paintings and illustrations. With many of his pieces being triptychs of imposing size, the book distributes these works across multiple pages to display all the richness and details found in the originals.
The second volume, Studies, reveals in detail the "machinery" behind each of his visions, and inside you'll find the artist's sketches, studies, composition research, his personal regrets and intimate travel journals.
