He was a student of Harvey Dunn, who was himself a student of the incredible artist and teacher, Howard Pyle.  Among Tepper's contemporaries and peers were Dean Cornwell, Mead Schaeffer and Harold von Schmidt, all highly skilled and ultimately, all famous artists and illustrators of the Golden Age.
