Boris Vian was born in 1920. The family was surrounded by a world of high cultural and financial capital, but the crisis of 1929 forced them to reduce their lifestyle. At the age of twelve, Boris became seriously ill. He plays the trumpet in jazz bands and performs in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. He wrote his first novel, Vercoquin et le plancton, which was published in 1945, followed by L'Écume des jours and L'Automne à Pékin. At the same time, Boris Vian wrote a black novel under the pseudonym of Vernon Sullivan, J'irai cracher sur vos tombes, which will be the subject of complaints for indecent exposure. In 1950, L'Herbe rouge and Elles se rendent pas comptent were published, and in 1953 his last novel, L'Arrache-coeur, was released. All these publications are commercial failures. Besides his literary production, Boris Vian continues to work in the musical world by composing many songs. He died of a heart attack on June 23, 1959.
