Jean Roba, known as Roba, was a famous comic strip artist. He was born in Schaerbeek on July 28, 1930, and died in Brussels on June 14, 2006, at the age of 75. The artist, who fell in love with drawing as a child, is best known as the author of the Boule et Bill series. Roba created this iconic comic strip in 1959 and drew his inspiration from his own life: his two main characters portray his son and his dog. Roba’s work does not stop there. He has also worked for Spirou et Fantasio and La Ribambelle. His drawings have impressed many, reflecting not only his talent as an artist, but also his humor, originality, and tenderness. Before devoting himself to comics, Roba explored other art forms, such as engraving and advertising illustration. He was also trained in interior decoration and design.
